Great American Cleanup Cancelled

The Keep America Beautiful Foundation has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Great American Cleanup.

“Due to reports from global health services that the COVID-19 (coronavirus) can live on surfaces for an extended period of time, such as up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to 2-3 days on plastic, we are advising everyone against picking up litter, in groups or individually, until further notice. Our primary concern and priority is the health and safety of our affiliate network, volunteers and all Americans…With safety front of mind, we advise people to avoid cleanups for the time being. According to the CDC, “it may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes.” Even with precautions such as gloves the spread of the virus is possible.”

Keep Arkansas Beautiful (KAB) will not be shipping any supplies until further notice.

The 2020 Great American Cleanup in Arkansas has been extended through the end of June to allow rescheduling of cleanup events for a safer time. We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage you to reschedule your event when the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) threat has passed. These dates are subject to change at any point.

KAB staff will be working from our homes, practicing social distancing, until further instruction from Governor Asa Hutchinson. For now, we will not be shipping any supplies during the month of May. This could change at any time.

We encourage you to continue to check our website and social media for updates and tips on how you can practice keeping Arkansas beautiful daily from your residence.

To our wonderful volunteers and coordinators:

At Keep Arkansas Beautiful, we want you to know we are here for you and will continue to work with you in the coming months in any way we can. Our thoughts are collectively with you during these unprecedented times, as we take the health and safety of our volunteers with the utmost seriousness. Until this pandemic comes to an end, we strongly encourage everyone to practice social distancing. Please do not host group cleanups or litter pickups at this time. WE DO NOT WANT ANYONE PUTTING THEMSELVES AT RISK BY PICKING UP LITTER.

As always, we thank you for all you do to help us keep our state beautiful. We will get through this!
