The nation's largest study of litter and littering behavior reinforces the need for educational and litter-prevention efforts such as those of KAB. The study estimates that litter costs the nation at least $11.5 billion per year, not including indirect costs such as decreased property values, decreased commerce and tourism in blighted areas, and health effects.

The toll-free Litter Hotline is an easy, anonymous way to help keep Arkansas' roadsides free of litter. More than 41,000 reports have been made to the Hotline in the past 5 1/2 years. Reports of cigarette littering make up more than half of the reports.
